 Murder attempt of the special case detective took place on Wednesday in Astrakhan. The detective Kovalev is the head of the special task group. The task of this group is the struggle against corruption. Kovalev is heading the serious investigations against Renat Salehov, the former chief of the Department for Fight with Organized Crime and other corrupted leaders of Astrakhan business connected with caviar mafia and contract killing. He was injured, but he resisted and even arrested the suspects.Evgeniy Kovalev was attacked near his house approximately at 1:00 am. Shotgun bullet got through the rear window of his car and hit his shoulder. In spite of the heavy injury, he quit the car and persuaded the attackers. Kovalev made 2 warning shots and the attackers stopped. Keeping them on his aim, detective called reinforcements and ambulance. Evgeniy Kovalev is hospitalized in safety right now. His condition is considered as serious but stable. Today, Astrakhan regional court opened the session about one of the 8 cases connected with the Renat Salehov's criminal activities. The first charge is murder of 2 persons on his SUV. Besides, there are other heavy crimes committed by Salehov.
During the investigation it was informed that Salehov is the owner of several houses, restaurants, cafes and even hotel. Moscow Department of Justice is informing that the murder attempt on Kovalev is surely connected with the investigation process of Renat Salehov.
